Air Arabia sponsors Abu Dhabi Harlequins tour to Georgia
The Abu Dhabi Harlequins U15s rugby team embarked on a ground-breaking tour to Georgia in March to support an ambitious youth rugby program that is designed to propel the country into the Six Nations championship in the coming years.
Sponsored by Air Arabia, the team flew to the Georgian Capital Tbilisi to play three matches in a week, including two against the Georgian rugby academy.
Georgia has invested heavily into club and representative rugby in recent years, establishing academies and a high performance centre in Tbilisi, and the country will host the under 20s rugby world championship this year.
With the sport's popularity growing rapidly, the Georgian Rugby Football Union is keen to invite international teams to a country that has not traditionally been a touring destination.
The team took time off from rugby to visit several historical sites, including the David Garega Monastery on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border, as well as caves near the central Georgian city of Gori. The trip ended with skiing in Georgia's northern mountain resort of Gudauri.
